The Anniversario 62 Primitivo di Manduria Riserva 2018 from San Marzano is an outstanding wine that comes from very old vines that thrive on the characteristic red soil. With yields deliberately kept low and careful hand-picking, every aspect of winemaking is carefully monitored. It reaches its maturity through 12 months of aging in French and American oak. This process gives it a deep ruby red color and intense aromas of dried plum and cherry jam. There are also fine nuances of spices, tobacco and rum pot. On the palate, this wine is very strong and full-bodied, accompanied by gentle tannins and an endless aftertaste. It is the perfect accompaniment to strong dishes such as beef, game and hot and spicy braised dishes, but also to blue mold cheese. As evidence of its excellent quality, the 2013 vintage was awarded the gold medal at MUNDUS Vini 2016 and the Berlin Wine Trophy 2016. Luca Maroni even named it “Best Red Wine in Italy” in 2017. The 2015 vintage was also able to claim a gold medal at MUNDUS Vini 2018.
