Matsu The Elder - 2021
Following the Japanese inspiration of Bodegas Matsu (Matsu means "hope" in Japanese), with this wine they present a drink that has both the strength of a sumo wrestler and the grace of a samurai. The name of their premium wine "El Viejo" (in German: The Old One) refers to both the deep respect that Japanese have for older people and the ancient vines from which the grapes for this wine come. Perhaps European winemakers could draw more inspiration from faraway Asia, because this wine is simply brilliant. It impresses with its intense aroma of ripe black fruits, which harmonizes wonderfully with the roasted, spicy and balsamic tones. On the palate it is opulent with extremely ripe, round and sweet tannins. The long and persistent finish brings out the ripe fruits again, which merge perfectly with the toasted nuances of the wood. A wine without compromises! The 2015 vintage was awarded silver at Mundus Vini Spring 2018.
