Background: Ferreira Dona Antónia 10 Years Old Tawny is created in honor of Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, a charismatic woman who dedicated her entire life to the Douro and port wine and laid the foundation for what is now the largest Portuguese port winery. In its Portuguese homeland, the traditional port wine house Ferreira, founded in 1751, is the undisputed number one. This is due to the over 300 hectares of our own vineyards, which are among the cream of the crop in the region - above all the famous Quinta do Porto, which was acquired by Dona Antónia Ferreira. On the steep terraced slopes sloping down to the Douro, the grapes receive plenty of sun in the hot, dry summers and thus develop the strength, fullness and ripeness that characterize the unique character of the port wine. Sogrape has managed to bring the wine-growing regions of Vinho Verde, Douro, Dão and Bairrada to a level that is now competitive beyond national borders. The house “pursues a consistent quality policy that respectfully preserves old traditions, cultivates local varieties and thus produces independent Portuguese plants,” writes the trade magazine Vinum in recognition of the great achievements of Portugal’s No. 1.
